WACO, Texas -
The Big 12 Conference released its women's basketball schedule today, completing the Baylor Lady Bears 2011-12 schedule. Regular season Big 12 Conference action begins on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, and will conclude on Sunday, March 4, 2012. Dates may be adjusted after the television schedule is released.
With the release of the Big 12 Conference women's basketball schedule, the Lady Bears will play at least 16 home games and possibly as many as 19 home games in the upcoming season (depending on how many WNIT games they host). Baylor released its non-conference schedule in early July and the schedule is now complete with the addition of the Big 12 games. The Lady Bears will play at least seven non-conference home games and nine league games in the Ferrell Center.
The conference schedule contains 18 games for each institution. For the first time in the league's 16-year history, teams will play a double round robin format, playing each opponent twice. The team(s) that finishes with the best winning percentage in league games is declared the Big 12 regular season champion.
The format has also been adjusted for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship to be held in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium. The two first round matchups will be played on Wednesday, March 7, followed by quarterfinals on Thursday, March 8. Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 9, with the final contested on Saturday, March 10. The winner earns the Big 12's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
NCAA Tournament first- and second-round games, played at 16 pre-determined sites running March 17-20, will be held in the following cities: Ames, Iowa (Hilton Coliseum); Bridgeport, Conn.
