The Baylor Lady Bear basketball team, which has posted a 52-2 regular season record over the past three seasons and won four straight league crowns, will open conference play vs. Oklahoma State on Jan. 3, 2015, the Big 12 Conference announced today when it released the league schedule.
Dates may be adjusted after the television schedule is released and times will be released later.
The conference schedule features a double round robin format for the fourth consecutive year consisting of 18 games with squads playing each other twice. The team(s) that finishes with the best winning percentage in league games will be crowned the Big 12 regular season champion.
Dallas' American Airlines Center will host the 2015 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship for the second time in three years. The Conference championship was also contested in Dallas in 2006, 2004 and 2003, however those were held in Reunion Arena. The 2013 event at American Airlines Center averaged 7,037 fans per session, the second-highest attendance in Big 12 history.
Two first round matchups will be played on Friday, March 6, followed by quarterfinals on Saturday, March 7. Semifinals are scheduled for Sunday, March 8 with the final contested on Monday, March 9. The winner earns the Big 12's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
2014 marked the fifth-straight year for the Big 12 to lead the nation in percentage of teams in the NCAA field. The Conference has led or tied for the nation's top spot in seven of eight years dating back to 2007. The Big 12 has placed at least six teams in the NCAA Championship eight-consecutive years and 14 times overall since inception in 1996-97.
