GURABO, Puerto Rico - Baylor incoming freshman Alexis Prince scored nine points, pulled down eight rebounds, tallied two assists and two blocks and was 4-of-9 from the floor in 22 minutes of action in the USA Basketball's U18 win on Wednesday. The red, white and blue posted a 99-26 victory over the Dominican Republic to open 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
Team USA led by only two points, 15-13, after the first quarter but the U.S. scored the first 31 points of the second quarter and outscored the Dominican Republic 84-13 over the final three quarters.
The USA will next face Argentina (1-0) on Aug. 16 at 3:45 p.m. (all times EDT) and Colombia (0-1) on Aug. 17 at 3:45 p.m. to wrap up preliminary pool play. The top two teams from each preliminary round group will be seeded and advance to the medal semifinals on Aug. 18. Winners of the semifinals will compete in the gold medal game to be played on Aug. 19.
