Baylor women's basketball players Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims have been named to the 25-member preseason "Wade Watch" list, for the State Farm Wade Trophy, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today.

Now in its 35th year, the State Farm Wade Trophy is named after the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lily Margaret Wade. The prestigious award, regarded as "The Heisman of Women's Basketball," is presented annually to the NCAA® Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA.

The 25-member preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I student-athletes from 17 institutions and seven conferences who best embody Wade's spirit. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.

Griner, a 6-8 junior post, was a Wade Trophy finalist in 2011, while Sims, a sophomore point guard, is listed for the first time.

Griner, the WBCA's Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus all-American last year, averaged 23.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game. Griner was also Big12 Player of the Year and the league's Defensive Player of the Year. The Houston, Texas, native was recently named to the USA National Team roster, from which the 12-member 2012 U.S. Olympic Women's Basketball Team will be named. Griner is the only player on the roster with collegiate eligibility remaining.

In her rookie season, Sims was a first-team All-Big 12 selection, league Freshman of the Year and an All-American honorable mention. The Irving, Texas, native averaged 13.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game as a rookie. She recently helped the USA claim a gold medal at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China.

All told, four Big 12 players were named to the Wade Watch list, joining Griner and Sims are Kansas' Carolyn Davis and Tyra White of Texas A&M.

The 2012 State Farm Wade Trophy winner will be announced during the WBCA National Convention, which will be held in conjunction with the 2012 NCAA Women's Final Four in Denver.
