WACO, Texas - Over 650 Lady Bear fans enjoyed the annual Welcome Back Supper in the Ferrell Center hosted by the Tip Off Club, a support organization for the Baylor women's basketball program.
Head coach Kim Mulkey welcomed back Lady Bear fans and introduced the 2008-09 Baylor squad and the program's two newest staff members, assistant coach Leon Barmore and Rekha Patterson, coordinator of basketball operations.
In addition, Mulkey announced that former Lady Bear and current WNBA standout Sophia Young's jersey will be retired on Sunday, Nov. 16, when the Lady Bears host Stanford at 2 p.m. Young was recently named first-team All-WNBA and to the league's all-defensive team. She averaged 17.5 points and 5.6 rebounds en route to leading the Silver Stars to the 2008 WNBA finals.
Baylor will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 when they host Florida Atlantic at 7:00 p.m.
Prior to the season opener, Baylor will play two exhibition games. On Nov. 3 it will take on the Houston Jaguars and on Nov. 7 it will host the Dallas Diesel. Both games will begin at 7 p.m.
