Lady Bear Supper Draws Record Crowd

Over 1,000 fans attended the Welcome Back Supper.

WACO, Texas - A record crowd of over 1,000 Baylor women's basketball fans attended the 13th Annual Welcome Back Supper in the Ferrell Center on Tuesday night.

The event, free and open to the public, continues to grow in popularity, seeing larger crowds each year. Fans flocked to the Ferrell Center to meet the team, nine returnees and five newcomers, and the staff. In addition, head coach Kim Mulkey gave the attendees a glimpse of what to expect this season as the Lady Bears get "Back-2-Business" after winning the program's second NCAA national championship last season.

The Lady Bears return all five starters off last season's squad, which includes 90.4 percent of the scoring and 86.8 percent of individual rebounds returning to the court. "We have a team that has more depth than we had last year, and that's good. It will be good in practice to have depth at every position on the floor, practices should be very competitive," said Mulkey.

"Our seniors obviously should lead us, but our freshmen are very talented, they need to come in here and find minutes, and they will find minutes because they are talented. What greater people to learn from as freshmen than seniors that are finishing up their last year," said Mulkey.

After posting a historic 40-0 record and claiming the NCAA Championship crown, the Lady Bears face their most daunting schedule in school history. Contests against the three other teams that played in the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four highlight Baylor's 2012-13 non-conference schedule and the Big 12 Conference, which welcomes two newcomers to the league in TCU and West Virginia, is as competitive as usual.

In addition to taking on Final Four participants Stanford, Connecticut and Notre Dame in non-conference action, the Lady Bears have games scheduled against national powers Kentucky and Tennessee. In fact, eight of BU's 12 non-conference opponents posted 20 or more wins last season and three of those foes recorded 30-plus victories.

After playing two exhibition games, Baylor opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 when they host Lamar at 12 p.m.

Season tickets for the Lady Bears' 17-game home schedule are on sale starting at $125 each. For more information, contact the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at 254-710-1000 or visit
