WACO, Texas - The Baylor Lady Bear basketball team has been picked to finish second in league regular season action the Big 12 Conference announced today. In a vote of the league's head coaches, the Oklahoma Sooners got the nod as the preseason favorite.
Baylor, winners of the last three regular season crowns, received three first place votes and a total of 70 points while Oklahoma received five first place nods and tallied 74 points. West Virginia and Oklahoma State tied for third and were followed in order by Texas, Iowa State, Kansas, TCU, Kansas State and Texas Tech.
Baylor will be led this season by point guard Odyssey Sims, the team's lone returning starter. The senior was recently named the league's Preseason Player of the Year and is a strong contender for national player of the year honors as well. The Lady Bears are an extremely young team this season with nine freshmen and sophomores, a junior and three seniors.
