Kim Mulkey speaks to the large crowd at the Welcome Back Supper.
Oct. 10, 2013
WACO, Texas - A large and enthusiastic group of Baylor women's basketball fans attended the 14th Annual Welcome Back Supper in the Ferrell Center on Thursday night.
Fans packed the Ferrell Center to meet the team, eight returnees and five newcomers, and the staff. In addition, head coach Kim Mulkey gave the attendees a glimpse of what to expect this season.
As a special highlight, the returning Lady Bears received their Big 12 Championship rings, BU claimed both the regular season and tournament titles.
No wasted days and go get it... those are the two challenges posed to the 2013-14 Baylor Lady Bear basketball team this season by Lady Bear coach Kim Mulkey.
With that in mind, what a difference a year can make. Baylor's team goes from a veteran-laden roster to a team with nine underclassmen and just four upperclassmen. However, the shelf is not totally bare; as the 2013-14 Lady Bears will be led by National Player of the Year candidate Odyssey Sims.
"It goes without saying, a majority of our scoring will come from the perimeter because of Odyssey, but she can't do it by herself. We've got an opportunity for young people to step in and play," Mulkey said.
Also, a talented group of freshmen and sophomores will be counted on heavily to contribute this season. The last time a Baylor roster sported so many freshmen and sophomores, the Lady Bears wound up in the 2010 NCAA Final Four in San Antonio. That team featured four freshmen averaging over 13.5 minutes a game.
After playing two exhibition games, Baylor opens its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9 when it hosts Grambling State at 7 p.m.
Season tickets for the Lady Bears' 20-game home schedule are on sale. For more information, contact the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office at 254-710-1000 or visit www.BaylorBears.com.
