WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's basketball team is ranked No. 10 in both the Preseason Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches Polls. It marks the fifth straight season the Lady Bears have debuted in the top 10 of the polls and the seventh time overall. All told, in both polls it is the 10th straight preseason national ranking and 11th overall for the Baylor program, all coming under head coach Kim Mulkey.

In 2013-14, senior point guard Odyssey Sims is expected to lead the Lady Bears and contend for National Player of the Year honors. The Irving, Texas native is a two-time consensus All-American, a three-time first-team All-Big 12 selection and is the Big 12 Conference's 2013-14 Preseason Player of the Year. In addition, she was a finalist for the Wooden Award, Wade Trophy, Naismith Trophy and USBWA Player of the Year honors last season. Sims averaged 12.9 points, 5.8 assists, 2.8 steals and 2.5 rebounds a contest as a junior.

Baylor defeated Palm Beach Atlantic (111-52) in the first of its two exhibition games and will host Oklahoma City University on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The Lady Bears open regular season play on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host Grambling State at 7 p.m.
