Senior guard Odyssey Sims is a two-time preseason AP All-American.

Nov. 6, 2013

WACO, Texas - For the second straight season, Baylor senior guard Odyssey Sims has been named to The Associated Press preseason All-America team. She is joined by fellow seniors Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford) and Alyssa Thomas (Maryland). UConn teammates Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, a junior, and Breanna Stewart, a sophomore, rounded out the five-member team. Ogwumike and Sims were both on the postseason All-America team last spring, with Thomas and Mosqueda-Lewis earning second team honors.

Sims, the 2013-14 Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, averaged 12.9 points, 5.3 assists per game as a junior while shooting 47.7 percent from the perimeter and 83.2 percent from the free throw line. Last season, the Irving, Texas, native ranked No. 2 nationally in assist/turnover ratio with a mark of 2.7 while checking in at No. 25 in assists and No. 36 in steals (2.8). Sims recently returned from the USA Women's National Team mini-camp and this past summer earned her second World University Games gold medal while receiving the tournament's co-MVP honor. By earning her second championship, Sims became the first women's basketball two-time gold medalist for the USA at the World University Games.

"Odyssey is by far the most experienced player we have. She understands what it takes to win championships, she understands the work ethic," head coach Kim Mulkey said. "She's going to be asked to do more than ever before, both in her play and in the leadership capacity, and I think she's ready for it."

"I am so honored to be named a preseason AP All-American for the second time. That's a pretty select group to be included in and I am humbled by the recognition," said Sims.
