IRVING, Texas - Baylor's Brittney Griner was selected Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Nov. 15-20. Griner was recognized for the 13th time in her career while Iowa State's Nikki Moody picked up her first Freshman of the Week honor.
Griner was named the most valuable player of the Preseason WNIT after leading Baylor to the championship and setting two WNIT records. She claimed tournament marks for most blocks in a game (8) and total tournament blocks (22). The 6-8 junior registered two double-doubles and averaged 25.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.5 blocks while leading the Lady Bears to victory over two ranked opponents, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 22 UCLA. Griner tallied 32 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks vs. the Fighting Irish and added 18 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks vs. No. 22 UCLA while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor.
Nikki Moody dished out 12 assists with just four turnovers last week in a pair of wins for Iowa State. The point guard had a career-high 16 points against Drake, connecting on 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Moody recorded career-highs for assists (nine), rebounds (four) and steals (three) against Northern Arizona. For the week she averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds.
