With the Baylor baseball team not coming to Houston for the Astros College Classic in early 2004 (two of the four Big 12 teams always stays home to avoid having to meet other conference foes prior to the regular season), "B" Association member James "Chip" Hubbard has a new project.

The mastermind behind Houston area "B" members hosting an annual event for Baylor athletic teams, Hubbard this year has geared his energy toward the Baylor Lady Bears basketball team that will play in the Dec. 5-6 Gene Hackerman Rice Invitational Tournament.

Baylor will meet Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. on Friday and that game will be followed by the 7 p.m. game between Rice and Stephen F. Austin. First-round losers play at 5 p.m. Saturday and the two unbeaten teams meet for the championship at 7 o'clock.

Hubbard says he hopes "B" members will support the Lady Bears on both days, but he has something special cooked up at 2:30 p.m. Saturday - a "B" Association buffet luncheon at the downtown Houston Center Club, 1100 Caroline St.

All "B" members, former BU letterwinners, families and friends are invited to the party. The cost will be $15 for adults and $8 for children. Parking will be free in the First City Tower Garage adjacent to the club.

"B" members have been contacted by mail and urged to RSVP, sending their checks to Reba Cooper at the "B" Association office in Waco (P. O. Box 8120, Waco, Texas 76714-8120).

Hubbard also is asking Houston area "B" supporters to contribute extra money (between $35 and $50) so that the association can pay for the Lady Bears' meals while they are in Houston. A similar arrangement benefited Baylor's baseball teams the past three seasons.

To assist anyone in need of help, a map showing the locations of the Houston Center Club and Rice University's Autry Court is being posted on the "B" Association website (http://www.baylorbassociation.com). Maps also may be obtained by contacting Mrs. Cooper at 254-710-3045.

Where were you? . . .
The buzz in the "B" Association Room prior to the Nov. 22 Baylor-Oklahoma State game was much the same as in other pockets of America on that day: Where were you when you heard that President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated?

The tragic event 40 years ago seemed to load instant recall into the minds of all who were around during that era. A sampling of memories from the "B" Room crowd:
