ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - The sixth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears will play for the championship in the Island Division of the Paradise Jam on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers at 2:30 p.m. (CST) at St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands on the campus of the University of the Virgin Islands. Baylor and Wisconsin each enter the contest with 2-0 tournament marks.
Baylor, 6-0, is coming off a 62-57 victory over the Villanova while the Badgers defeated the University of Central Florida, 65-61, on Friday. Wisconsin also owns a 47-45 win over Villanova.
The Lady Bears are led on the season by senior Rachel Allison's 17.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. Senior Jhasmin Player is the squad's second-leading scorer averaging 11.8 a game while junior Danielle Wilson completes Baylor's double-digit scorers with 10.7 an outing. Sophomore Melissa Jones rank second on the team in rebounding at 7.5 a game while Wilson hauls down 7.2 boards and junior Morghan Medlock averages 6.5 a contest. Wisconsin, 4-1 on the season, features one player averaging double digits. Alyssa Karel leads the team in scoring at 12.2 a game and ranks second on the squad in rebounding at 5.4 a contest. Anya Covington is the squad's top rebounder at 6.2 a game. Lin Zastrow is tied with Karel in rebounding at 5.4.
In Baylor's victory over Villanova, Baylor's three seniors led the way, all recorded double-digit scoring. Jessica Morrow poured in a season-high 17 points while Allison notched her sixth straight double-digit scoring effort with 16 points. Player added 14 in the winning effort. Jones was the team's leading rebounder with seven boards, followed by Player and sophomore Kelli Griffin with six each.
