The No. 7 Baylor equestrian team (6-5) fell to No. 3 Texas A&M (7-4) in a competition that came down to point differential after it was tied 9-9 Saturday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.
"I thought the girls rode well," said Ellen White. "It is always good to know what our competition is and where the bar is and what we have to do to step up and make it happen."
The Bears started strong winning Equitation on the Flat 2-1. Heather Healy led off with an 80-73 victory which was good enough to earn her MVP honors. Melanie Appel also scored for Baylor.
Baylor continued to expand their lead with a 4-1 victory in Equitation over Fences. Kendra Vicary, Lisa Goldman, Taylor Brown and Kara Fergusson all notched wins for the Bears. Goldman's 82-73 win earned her MVP honors.
With the Bears leading 6-2 after Equitation, Texas A&M managed a comeback sweeping Horsemanship 5-0.
With the Aggies now up 7-6, the Bears tried to pull away in the final Reigning competition. Katie Buss and Madelyn Mooney each earned points for Baylor, but it was not enough to avoid a 2-2 tie. With the final score 9-9, A&M took the victory based on raw score differential.
The Bears will next be in action at home on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10:00 a.m. as they take on Kansas State.
