The No. 7 Baylor equestrian team (6-5) defeated No. 6 Kansas State 10-8, Saturday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.

The Bears started strong winning Equitation on the Flat 5-0. Melanie Appel's 81-70 victory was good enough to earn her MVP honors. Heather Healy, Margaret Beaudion, Mary Smitson and Kim Woodsum also scored for Baylor.

Baylor continued to expand their lead with a 4-0 victory in Equitation over Fences. Taylor Brown, Heather Healy, Kara Fergusson and Kendra Vicary each earned points for the Bears. Brown's score of 84 earned her MVP honors.

With the Bears leading 9-0 through half of the events, Kansas State attempted a comeback winning Horsemanship 3-1. Lindsey Tomko scored for Baylor while Allison Orosz received MVP honors.

Kansas State continued to give Baylor a scare, sweeping the Reigning competition 5-0. Despite the late comeback by the Wildcats, Baylor was able to hold onto a 10-7 victory overall.

The Bears will next be in action on the road Saturday, Feb. 27 as they take on Auburn.
