The No. 6 Baylor equestrian team (8-4) kicked off its first home meet of the spring season with an upset over No. 3 Oklahoma State (7-5), winning by raw scores 1530-1411 after a tie at the Willis Family Equestrian Center on Saturday.
"Both sides rode really well today," said head coach Ellen White. "It's always exciting when both sides ride well. I think we're peaking at the right time and I am looking forward to next weekend and the two meets we have coming up."
Baylor began with a 4-1 lead in Fences. Samantha Schaefer's 84 earned MVP honors for the Bears with Jenny Mitchell (72), Taylor Brown (81) and Paige Parker (83) also earning points for the BU win.
Even after being defeated 3-2 in Flat, the Bears continued to hold a 6-4 lead. Samantha Schaefer's 89 and Melanie Appel's 81 earned the points for Baylor.
Baylor would be forced to come from behind after dropping a 4-1 decision in Horsemanship. Mary Brown's 70 was the only point earned for BU.
The meet ended with a dramatic 3-2 victory for Baylor in reining, squaring the meet 10-10. Katherine Berg (67), Shelby Jackson (68.5) and Claire Edwards (67.5) all earned points towards the BU win.
Once the points were totaled, Baylor came out on top by a slim 119-point margin.
The Bears will next be in action, hosting a pair of matches next weekend. BU will take on No. 4 Kansas State on Friday at 11:00 a.m., followed by a match on March 2 at 10:00 a.m. against No. 2 Auburn at 10:00 a.m.
