Coming off its tiebreaker victory against Oklahoma State, the No. 6 Baylor equestrian team (9-4) defeated No. 3 Kansas State (7-3) 12-7 and won all possible MOP honors on Friday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.
"It's great that we are peaking at the right time," said head coach Ellen White. "We have a big competition tomorrow so we need to start getting focused against Auburn. But we just went against two strong Big 12 schools, Kansas State today and Oklahoma State last weekend, and to come out with wins like that is a great thing for the girls."
The Bears defeated the Wildcats in each discipline, scoring a 6-4 win in Hunter Seat and 6-3 victory in Western. Jenny Mitchell led the way with two points, individually.
The meet began with a 3-2 victory for the Bears in Fences. Jenny Mitchell earned MOP honors for Baylor after scoring an 86. AshleyAnn McGehee (82) and Taylor Brown (83), likewise earned the points for the team.
Baylor went on to defeat Kansas State 3-2 in Flat, as Samantha Schaefer's 83 earned MOP honors. Mitchell's 76 and Paige Parker's 76 also won points for the BU win.
Expanding the lead 9-6, the Bears defeated KSU 3-2 in Horsemanship. Ashley Garza's 74 earned MOP with Parris Rice's 73.5 and Mary Brown's 71.5 also contributing points for the win.
The meet ended with a 3-1 victory for Baylor in Reining. Olivia Rogers (73.5) rounded out the MOP sweep, while Clarie Edwards (71) and Katie Abbott (68.5) earned points to finalize BU's 12-7 win.
Baylor will host No. 2 Auburn at the Willis Family Equestrian Center on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The match will mark the final home event of the year for the Bears and be Senior Day.
