March 3, 2018

FELTON, Del. – No. 7 Baylor equestrian (5-5) couldn’t overcome a late rally by the Hornets, dropping an 8-6 road meet at Delaware State (1-8) on Saturday afternoon at the Dovington Training Center.

Fences and horsemanship got the meet started, with BU taking a 4-2 lead into the break, going 3-1 in fences and 1-1 in horsemanship.

For fences, Brittney Mirkov, Shannon Hogue, and Gabby Conte all picked up points, with Gabby Conte’s 85 leading all riders and earning MOP honors.

In horsemanship, Charlotte Green picked up her point, while Abbi Demel and Katie Davis both drew with their opponents. Green’s 70.5 tied for the high-mark, earning the MOP nod.

In the second half, the Bears were outscored 6-2 by the Hornets, falling 3-1 in both reining and on the flat.

Rachael Davis scored a team-high 91 on the flat, while Georgia Smith’s 69.5 in reining was the meet-high mark and good enough to pick up BU’s third MOP of the meet.

DSU’s three 90+ scores in flat helped lead the Hornets to the 8-6 win over BU.
