WACO, Texas -
The Baylor equestrian team finished second in the Big 12 Championship meet, after a 10-9 loss to Oklahoma State in the title contest on Saturday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.

BU fell down 4-1 after horsemanship, the day's first discipline, before the Cowgirls extended their lead in the match to 7-3 with a 3-2 victory in fences.

However, Baylor mounted a furious comeback, claiming a 5-0 sweep in equitation on the flat to take an 8-7 lead heading into the final event.

After several official reviews, OSU took the reining portion of the contest by a 3-1 to give the Cowgirls a third-straight Big 12 title.

The Bears had beaten TCU on Friday to get into the title match.

Samantha Schaefer earned MOP honors for Baylor in Fences. Schaefer scored 171 and defeated OSU rider Samantha Elser's score of 126.

Alicia Gasser also earned MOP Honors for the Bears. In Equitation on the Flat, Gasser tallied a score of 151 defeating OSU rider Samantha Harrison (137).

Baylor will compete next at the NCEA National Championship. The championship will be held April 17-19 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.

"I think that Baylor did a great job hosting.  I really feel like everyone loved the facilities and I am just so appreciative of all the donors who have made this possible and have made this program what it is. The girls did a great job. I think they rode beautifully yesterday and rode confidently this morning. We just were slow this morning. The flat girls rode amazing but in the end, it was as close as you could get without winning." - Head Coach Ellen White
