WACO, Texas - The third-seeded Baylor Hunter Seat equestrian team posted its best-ever finish at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships on Saturday morning, finishing third at the Extraco Events Center. The Bears' previous best finish was fourth place in 2009.
"I was really proud of the way our girls rode today," head coach Ellen White said. It was nice that they got back in focus."
Baylor finished third with a 6-1 victory over fourth-seeded Oklahoma State. The Bears defeated the Cowgirls 3-1 in equitation on the flat. Kim Woodsum (134-133) notched Baylor's first point, while Lisa Goldman (155-144) and Taylor Brown (15-140) also earned points for the Bears.
The Bears continued to extend their lead, sweeping equitation over fences 3-0. Kendra Vicary led off with a 149-145 victory. She was followed by Goldman (161-157) and Ashley Ann McGehee (165-159) who both totaled points for Baylor and resulted in a 6-1 victory for BU. Taylor Brown and Oklahoma State rider Erin Prutow tied with 157 apiece.
The Bears finished the 2010-2011 season ranked No. 5 with a 15-7 record.
