Samantha Schaefer

April 20, 2013

The No. 1 Baylor Hunter Seat could not overcome its 3-1 deficit after Flat, falling 5-3 to No. 4 Auburn in the semifinals of the 2013 NCEA National Championship at the Extraco Events Center in Waco.

"I really thought we rode well today," head coach Ellen White said. "I thought our Fences rides, in particular, were very good. We may have been a little tense at the start, but Auburn is a great team riding its best at the right time. Give them the credit."

Sophomore Samantha Schaefer won two of Baylor's three points, while senior Taylor Brown earned the other.

Schaefer's 185 proved to be the only point the Bears got out of Flat, making it 2-1 before BU dropped the final point for a 3-1 deficit.

Baylor would cut AU's lead to one when Schaefer came out of the gate to post a 165, earning the point. Trailing 4-2, the Bears needed three-straight points for a tie and got one from Taylor Brown's 140. But freshman Paige Parker's best score at the championship (175) was not enough on the final ride, falling 5-3.

"We had a good season and I am really proud of my team," White said. "These seniors have given everything and accomplished a lot, and it will be up to the returners to keep raising the bar. I am already excited for next season."
