Despite being tied through three events, the No. 5 Baylor equestrian team (3-3) suffered their first home loss of the season, falling 14-10 to No. 1 Georgia (2-0) on Friday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
Samantha Schaefer led the way with two MVP's for the second-straight competition.
"I felt like we rode well, we did well, we are showing some freshman, and playing with our line-ups to put people in," said head coach Ellen White. "Georgia is the number one team and we held on until the very last couple of rides. I feel really comfortable and confident with our team that we are going to be a good contender this year."
The meet began with a 3-3 tie in Fences. Samantha Schaefer's 90 was the highest score in the division, earning her MVP honors. Taylor Brown (83) and AshleyAnn McGehee (84) also earned points for Baylor.
Neither team managing to pull ahead, the meet continued with a 3-3 tie in Reining. Claire Edwards (73) earned MVP honors, with Shelbey Jackson (71) and Katherine Berg (69.5) also contributing points for BU
Continuing with the pattern of the meet, Baylor and Georgia tied 3-3 in flat, making the score 9-9. Samantha Schaefer received MVP honors with a score of 76. Lindsey Otis (70) and Taylor Brown (67) both won points for the Bears as well.
With the match tied at nine, Georgia managed to pull ahead 14-10 in horsemanship, defeating Baylor 5-1. Bryn Lindley obtained MVP honors for BU with a score of 75.
Baylor equestrian's next meet will held at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco on Friday, November 9, against No. 9 Fresno State.
