In the Western riders' first official show, all eight Bears placed in their respective groups in the first day's competition. Baylor senior Stephanie Thompson ranked highest amongst her teammates as she placed second in her advanced riding group. There were three groups per skill level field at the IHSA show hosted by Oklahoma State University.
In the open field, Brenna Burris placed sixth in her group while both Ashleigh Brown and Kendra Kemp placed fifth in their respective groups. The novice field was completed with Kim Crook placing fourth and Nicole McCoy sixth while Kim Marlowe finished fifth in her group.
The Reining portion of the show featured a third place finish by Kemp, fourth place finishes by Brown and Burris, and a fifth place finish by Amanda Esco, who were in three different groups. Brown and Esco competed within the same grouping.
"Overall the girls rode well. They performed well in their individual levels, and we are pleased that they all placed in their first official show," commented assistant coach Trista Armstrong.
The show continues tomorrow with the same agenda as today with Reining beginning at 9:00 a.m.
