No. 8 Equestrian Upsets No. 1 South Carolina, 9-8

The No. 8 Baylor equestrian team (5-3) knocked off No.1 South Carolina (3-1) 9-8 Saturday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco, Texas. Samantha Schaefer took home two MVP's on the day.

"A lot of our freshmen are stepping up and realizing what it takes to win," said head coach Ellen White. "It was great fun. Now we're just looking towards beating TCU tomorrow."

The meet began with a 3-1 win for South Carolina in Fences. Samantha Schaefer's 88 earned MVP honors and the point for BU.

The Bears brought the meet to a tie with a 3-1 victory in Reining. Olivia Rogers (71) earned MVP honors while Claire Edwards (67.5), Katherine Berg (72) also earning points for Baylor

Tied at four, BU pulled ahead 8-5 after a 4-1 in Flat. Schaefer's 85 earned her MVP honors. Jenny Mitchell (79), Lindsay Otis (83) and Melanie Appel (77) all earned points for BU as well.

Needing just one point to secure the upset win, Bryn Lindley's 76.5 earned the point and victory for the Bears.

The Bears continue at 1 p.m. Sunday when they take on No. 7 TCU (3-2) at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
