Equestrian Finishes Fall With 12-8 Win Over TCU

WACO - A day after knocking off No. 1 South Carolina on Saturday, the No. 8 Baylor equestrian team (6-3, 1-2) made it two-straight with a 12-8 win over No. 7 TCU (3-3, 1-2) Sunday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco. The win ends the fall the season for the Bears.

"This was a great weekend for us," said head coach Ellen White. "Their hard work definitely showed and now we can look forward to the spring season."

The meet began with a 4-1 victory for the Bears in Fences. Samantha Schaefer's 85 scored highest, while Sue Carol Thompson (76), AshleyAnn McGehee (80) and Taylor Brown(83) all earned points for Baylor. Schaefer MVP'd in two of her four events during the weekend, including two in Fences.

Baylor stretched its lead to 7-3 with a 3-2 win in Flat. Kim Woodsum (84) earned MVP honors. Bailey Hughes (77) and Paige Parker(81) also earned points for BU.

Even with a 3-2 loss to TCU in Horsemanship, the Bears still managed to hold a 9-6 lead. Chelsea Retmier (77) and Rachel Nankervis(77.5) won the points for Baylor.

The meet came to an end with a 3-2 victory for BU in Reining. Olivia Rogers (77), Shelbey Jackson (77) and Parris Rice(76.5) all earned points for the win

The Bears will head into offseason training before beginning its spring season on Feb. 2, 2013, when they travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico to take on No. 9 New Mexico State.
