Equestrian Defeats No. 7 Kansas State

WACO - Despite a late comeback by the Wildcats, the No. 8 Baylor equestrian team (5-4) was able to pull away from the No. 7 Kansas State Wildcats en route to a 12-6 victory on Friday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.

The Bears started off strong, winning Equitation over Fences 3-2. Taylor Brown (85), Ashley Ann McGehee (75) and Lisa Goldman (83) all earned points for the Bears. Brown was also awarded MVP honors.

Baylor increased its lead with a 4-1 victory in Equitation on the Flat. Brown (80), Kendra Vicary (62), Kim Woodsum (67) and Kara Fergusson (76) all contributed points.

With a 4-0 sweep in the Horsemanship competition, the Bears continued to widen their lead. Ashley Garza's score of 75.5 was enough to earn her MVP honors. Meghan Murphy (79.5), Chelsea Remier (74.5) and Emily Polhemus (74) also scored points for Baylor.

Kansas State attempted a comeback, winning Reining 3-1. Olivia Rogers (75) scored the lone point for the Bears. Despite the victory by the Wildcats, the Bears were able to hold onto a 12-6 win.

The Bears will next be in action Jan. 29 against Delaware State and South Carolina at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
