The No. 2 Baylor Equestrian team (5-1) pulled off the 12-11 upset of No. 2 Texas A&M (7-1) Friday afternoon at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. It marked the first win over the Aggies since defeating them for the Big 12 Championship on March 27, 2010.
"This win means a lot because Texas A&M is such a great team," head coach Ellen White said. "It was a nail biter until the end, but what a great day to beat an undefeated A&M team."
The competition began with a 3-3 tie in Fences. Lisa Goldman (85) earned MVP honors with Kara Fergusson (79) and Taylor Brown (77) picking up points.
Baylor took a two point lead after a 4-2 win in Flat. Lisa Goldman (85), Taylor Brown (80), Kara Fergusson (64) and Melanie Appel (61) all earned points for the Bears.
Texas A&M pulled within one with a 3-2 win in Horsemanship. Meghan Murphy (74.5) and Parris Rice (74) garnered points for BU.
Needing nothing more than a tie, Baylor pulled it off in Reining, earning a 3-3 tie. Amber Mooney (73) recorded MVP honors and Ellie Powell (70) and Olivia Rogers (67) rounded out the scoring for the win.
Baylor is finished with fall competitions until Feb. 3 at home against New Mexico State.
