Equestrian Defeats No. 4 South Carolina

Despite a rough start, Baylor (3-4) rallied back to earn a crucial victory against no. 4 South Carolina. The Bears defeat the Gamecocks in a close 9-7 decision.

"It finally clicked for our young kids today. This will be great for us heading into the offseason and for the spring," head coach Ellen White said.

South Carolina took an early 3-1 lead winning three of four in Equitation on the Flat. Mary Smitson earned a 75-71 win to keep the Gamecocks from picking up the sweep.

Baylor picked up four points in Equitation over Fences, earning a 3-1 win. Kara Ferguson, Taylor Brown and Kendra Vicary each scored points for the bears.

Tied 4-4 after Equitation, the Bears tried to take over the lead in Horsemanship. Lindsay Douglas and Allison Orosz each earned wins, but South Carolina picked up a pair of points to keep the score tied 2-2.

Still tied, the Bears try to pull away in the Reigning competition. Amber Mooney led off with a 71.5-67.5 victory. This score earned Mooney MVP honors. Lindsey Tomko and Madelyn Mooney also picked up points for the Bears. The 3-1 victory in Reigning secured Baylor with a 9-7 win overall.

The Bears will be back in action Jan. 29 vs. Delaware State.
