WACO, Texas - While the rest of the Baylor equestrian team is experiencing the offseason between the fall and spring semesters, senior Katherine Berg was invited to compete in the Sun Circuit Shootout Reining Invitational on Feb. 2 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Baylor was one of eight schools invited to participate in the invitational. Along with Baylor, New Mexico State, South Carolina, South Dakota State, Fresno State, Delaware State, West Texas A&M and Ohio State will all be competing. There are eight schools total, and each school has nominated one rider to represent them.
"We are honored to have been selected to compete in the Sun Circuit Shootout," said Baylor head coach Ellen White. "And, we are proud to send Katherine to represent Baylor and our program."
Riders will compete in head-to-head in tournament type play with single elimination. Riders will use donated horses with the application of regular NCEA rules and regulations.
Out of seven meets this season, Berg has won five points contributing to Baylor's success in reining. She took wins in meets vs. Tennessee-Martin, New Mexico State, Auburn, Oklahoma State and Kansas State.
After the shootout, Berg and the rest of the Lady Bears will resume the second half of the 2013-14 season against Delaware State, February 8 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.
