WACO, Texas - With the week off, the Baylor Equestrian team slipped another spot in the Varsity Equestrian Intercollegiate Coaches Poll. The Lady Bears are now in third place with 62 points.
The Georgia Bulldogs remained the top-ranked team for the second straight week and will face Tennessee-Martin on Friday March 27. Texas A&M is in second place, its highest ranking of the season, trailing Georgia by only two points. The Aggies have won three consecutive matches and will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the Big 12 Championships on March 27 and 28.
South Carolina has won six straight matches, but remained in fourth place because they have been idle since Feb. 28 after a win over No. 8 Fresno State.
Auburn improved to fifth place, while Texas Christian dropped to sixth. The Horned Frogs have won seven of their last eight matches and scored 40 points in this week's poll.
The remaining teams stayed in the same position: Oklahoma State (39), Fresno State (22), Kansas State (19) and New Mexico (10). The Cowgirls recently defeated No. 5 Auburn 11-9, while Fresno State beat Southern Methodist in an English-only Event. Kansas State and New Mexico State are both on two-match winning streaks.
The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll. The final poll of the season will be released April 21, 2009.
