WACO, Texas - After a Big 12 Championship meet loss to Oklahoma State, the Baylor equestrian team was seeded No. 6 in the upcoming April 17-19 NCEA National Championships hosted by Baylor and the city of Waco.
The championship will include the top 12 overall teams in the nation, and this year's NCEA title, for the first time, will be determined by a combined score of hunter seat and western disciplines.
In the past there were two national titles awarded, and in 2011 Baylor took home the hunter seat national title.
The top-four seeds in the NCEA Championship will receive first-round byes with No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Oklahoma State, no. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Auburn. All four Big 12 teams earned spots in the meet with Kansas State at No. 5, BU at No. 6 and TCU at No. 9.
Baylor is 9-6 on the season and finished the Big 12 with a 4-4 record. The Bears will be paired with Tennessee-Martin, the No. 11 seed, to start the meet April 17. Baylor and UT-Martin met early in the season, Sept. 28, and Baylor took an 11-5 win. The winner of that matchup will face No. 3 Georgia.
Also competing in the NCEA championships are No. 8 Fresno State, No. 12 Texas A&M, and No. 7 New Mexico State.
