Sam Schaefer was named a first-team all-American in both flat and fences

WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team landed six riders on the NCEA's All-America teams last week including three first-team selections.
Samantha Schaefer earned two first-team honors in equitation on the flat and equitation over fences. Paige Parker joined Schaefer as a first-team in equitation over fences, and in the western discipline, Bryn Lindley was first-team selection for her performance in horsemanship.
Newcomer Savannah Jenkins, who competed with Baylor only in the spring semester, made her presence felt and was a second-team selection for equitation on the flat.
Alicia Gasser earned honorable mention all-America status for her performance in equitation on the flat while Claire Edwards was named as a member of the honorable mention squad for her performance in reining.
Earlier in the month, Schaefer picked up her fourth Big 12 Rider of the Month award in equitation over fences, and Gasser earned the honor in equitation on the flat.
After a runner-up performance at the Big 12 Equestrian Championships March 28-29, the Bears are gearing up for this week's NCEA National Championship Thursday through Saturday at the Extraco Events Center in Waco. Baylor will take on UT Martin in the first round Thursday with the winner taking on Georgia in the quarterfinals Friday. It marks the eight consecutive year that Baylor and the City of Waco have hosted the championship.
