The Baylor Equestrian team announced the signing of one of the nation's top junior riders, Samantha Schaefer, on Wednesday.
"We are so thrilled to have a rider of her caliber come to Baylor," assistant hunter seat coach Stacy Lane-Sanderson said. "She has been trained by the best, comes from a great family and will be a terrific asset both in competition and in the classroom."
Schaefer, who recently graduated from South Carroll High School in Westminster, Md., is finishing her last year as a junior rider under the tutelage of Andre Dignelli and Patricia Griffith at Heritage Farm, along with Don Stewart while in Ocala Fla. Riding out of her family's Shadow Ridge Farm in Westminster and Ocala, she is one of the nation's most decorated junior riders. In equitation, Schaefer has won the 2006 USEF Pony Finals Medal, 2009 Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic Finals and the 2010 Sam Edelman Equitiation Classic at the Hampton Classic Horse Show. In addition, she placed second at the 2010 Pessoa/USEF Hunt Seat Medal Finals, second at the 2009 Devon Pessoa/USEF Hunt Seat Medal and fourth at 2010 USET Finals.
Schaefer has also dominated the pony hunters and junior hunters, most recently stepping into the jumper ring. She's been champion at every indoor horse show in all three heights of the pony divisions along with both divisions of the Junior Hunters. Schaefer has also scored numerous championships or reserve championships at Pony Finals, the Devon Horse Show and Junior Hunter Finals.
