WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team ranked No. 7 in the NCEA Preseason Rankings for the 2013-14 season. The selections, announced Monday, have the Bears at No. 7 a year after Baylor competed in the NCEA Championships advancing to the quarterfinals in the hunter seat competition.
The Bears won the NCEA overall national championship in 2012, and the program sports the largest equestrian team in the nation. Baylor fell to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championships last year, and the Cowboys begin the season ranked fourth in the rankings. Also representing the Big 12 was Kansas State at No. 5 and TCU at No. 9.
Georgia, last year's NCEA runner up, leapfrogged the 2013 champ, Auburn, for the No. 1 spot in the rankings. The Tigers checked in at No. 2 despite last year's title.
The 2013-14 collegiate equestrian season officially begins Friday with South Carolina playing host to Kansas State. Baylor's season gets started Sept. 27-28 with the Willis Invitational in Waco, which includes New Mexico State, South Dakota State, Tennessee-Martin and the Bears.
Baylor will play host, once again, at the 2014 Big 12 Championships March 28-29 and the NCEA Championships April 17-19.
