Sept. 27, 2006
WACO, Texas -
Baylor's Willis Family Equestrian Center will see its first action Fri., Sept. 29, at 3:00 p.m. as the Bears host the TCU Horned Frogs in Baylor's first home show of the season.
The afternoon show will mark the first time that Baylor has competed against TCU. Both schools have participated in tournaments together but never paired to ride head-to-head. This is TCU's season-opening show.
The Bears enter the show after competing in two events last weekend. Baylor went head-to-head with 2006 English national champions South Carolina on Sept. 22. The Gamecocks narrowly defeated the Bears 11-9 with the new NCAA scoring system.
At Georgia's Bulldog Invitational Baylor placed second as the Bears picked up wins over Kansas State and the combined team. Baylor rode for the tournament championship against Georgia but the Bulldogs kept the title at home with a 9-6 victory. Judges awarded MVP honors for each discipline in each match up. Baylor claimed six MVP awards including the overall Horsemanship MVP who was Amanda Graber. Graber also earned MVP status during Baylor's show against Kansas State. The English team boasted four MVP riders, Nicole Brown, Susie Foster, Mary Smitson and April Wehle.
Friday's show will begin with English's Equitation over Fences and Western's Horsemanship. Equitation on the Flat and Reining will follow.
Full show results will be available at www.baylorbears.com upon the show's completion.
