WACO, Texas - Baylor's Alicia Gasser and Sam Schaefer took home two of the five Big 12 Riders of Month awards this week, announced by the league office Wednesday. The Bears' Gasser was named ROM for fences while Schaefer shared ROM honors with TCU's Caitlin Ader for flat.
Gasser, a freshman from Scottsdale, Ariz., went 3-0 in fences for the month of October. She helped Baylor take team wins over Kansas Sate and Oklahoma State and earned MOP honors against OSU. Along with her undefeated record for the month in fences, she had a 2-1 record in flat as well.
Schaefer, a junior from Westminster, Md., was awarded with Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month, going 3-0 during the month of October. Schaefer won all three flat events she competed in, including meets against TCU where she was MOP, OSU, and K-State. Schaefer also proved a dual threat for the Bears going 3-0 in fences as well.
Both Schaefer and Gasser have helped lead Baylor to a 2-1 Big 12 and a No. 4 NCEA national ranking.
Baylor's next meet is against No.2-ranked Auburn, Nov. 22. The meet will take place at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco.
