The No. 6 Baylor equestrian team (2-3) will travel to Las Cruces, N.M. for a pair of competitions against ranked foes, facing No. 9 New Mexico State (3-1) on Friday at 10:00 a.m. and No. 4 South Carolina (3-2) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the NM State Equestrian Center.
"These are our final competitions of the fall," head coach Ellen White said. "We are very excited about heading out west to face two quality opponents, and I know we will bring our very best this weekend."
The Lady Bears, who began the season 2-0, enter the weekend after losing the last three competitions. The Bears hold a 2-1 advantage over NMSU, while the Bears knocked off South Carolina last season, 15-5, to cut the series lead for the Gamecocks to 2-1.
Competing in the Equitation on the Flat this weekend will be Margaret Beaudoin, Mary Smitson, Faith Morris, Heather Healy and Kim Woodsum. In Equitation over Fences, Taylor Brown, Kara Fergusson, Heather Healy, Kendra Vicary and Mary Smitson will ride. Fergusson, Vicary and Healy are all undefeated with 4-0 records in their events on the year.
Riding Horsemanship for Baylor will be Allison Orosz, Meghan Murphy, Lindsey Tomko, Lindsay Douglas and Chelsea Retmier, while Madelyn Mooney, Amber Mooney, Katie Buss, Lindsey Tomko and Valtie Riddlle will represent the Bears in Reining. Madelyn Mooney has won all four of her events so far this year.
