Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge Round Two Results
PALOS VERDES, Calif. -
The Baylor women's golf team remained in sixth place after shooting a second round 13-over-par 297 in Tuesday's second round at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
"It's almost like a national championship field," head coach Jay Goble said. "To be in sixth place with one round to go, I am really pleased with such a young team that we have. Right now we have two sophomores and three freshmen in the lineup."
The Lady Bears (+31; 302-297=599) trail fifth place Florida (+24; 290-302=592) by six strokes. Southern California (+10; 298-280=578) moved into the top spot after Tuesday's second round, ahead of UCLA (+11; 288-291=579), Duke (+17; 290-295=585) and Texas (+21; 299-290=589), respectively.
Hayley Davis (+4; 72-74=146) shot one-over-par and is tied for 10th place with Southern Cal's Rachel Morris and UCLA's Lee Lopez and Louise Ridderstrom. Davis trails tournament leader Alejandra Cangrejo (-2; 70+70=140) of Duke by six strokes.
Emma Carberry (+5; 76-71=147) shot an even par and improved to a share of 14th place. Lauren Taylor (+8; 75-75=150) is tied for 30th place, Laura Lonardi (+14; 79-77=156) is tied for 59th place and Natalia Perez (+20; 80-82=162) is tied for 75th place.
"Emma played really solid all day," Goble said. "She had a few birdies and a few bogeys, but the whole thing about this golf course and this tournament is staying patient. She stayed patient and kept plugging along and played really well,"
Wednesday's championship round begin with a 10 a.m. CT shotgun start. Live scoring is available through www.GolfStat.com.
