GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The 18th-ranked Baylor women's golf team finished in 10th place at the 2013 SunTrust Gator Invitational after shooting 21-over-par 301 in Sunday's final round at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
"We are going to try and use this as motivation to help us realize that we need to get better before postseason," head coach Jay Goble said. "We are going to learn from this and it is going to be motivation for us going forward."
Baylor (+57, 897) finished just five strokes behind sixth-ranked North Carolina (+52, 892) and Mississippi State (+52, 892). Alabama (+25, 865) earned the tournament title, while Oklahoma (+28, 868) finished just three strokes back in second place. Florida (+30, 870), Oklahoma State (+37, 877) and Virginia (+37, 877) rounded out the top five.
Hayley Davis (+8, 218) finished a team-best tied for 13th place individually after a final-round of 8-over-par 78. Emma Carberry (+16, 226) finished tied for 38th after shooting 5-over 75 on Sunday, while Natalia Perez (+17, 227) finished one stroke behind Carberry and tied for 44th place.
"We are going to play a lot of golf in the next couple of weeks to get prepared for Ole Miss and ultimately to get prepared for postseason," Goble said.
