Indiana Leads BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout Through Two Rounds

BOERNE, Texas - Led by Danah Ford's two-under-par 70 Saturday, Indiana shot a team six-over 294 to take a 10-stroke lead through two rounds of the 2004 Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout. The fourth annual collegiate women's golf tournament is being held at the Tapatio Springs Golf Resort in Boerne, Texas.

The Hoosiers trailed by one stroke Friday after carding a 297 and stand first with a 591 through Round Two. Three Indiana golfers are among the top five individuals after two rounds. Indiana is 10 strokes up on first-round leader Texas Tech, which shot a 305 Saturday and is second at 601.

Missouri shot a second-round 300 to jump from fourth to third Saturday at 606. Host Baylor slipped from third to fourth after carding a second-round 304. Rollins College (315-304) and Wisconsin (317-302) are tied at fifth at 619. Rounding out the top 10 are Iowa (seventh place - 625), Illinois (eighth place - 626), New Mexico State (ninth place - 627) and UTEP (10th place - 630).

Ford stands two-under-par for the tournament at 142 and leads the individual field of 113. Texas Tech's Sheila Mendez is second at even-par 144 through two rounds after firing a one-under 71 Saturday. Ford's Indiana teammate Karen Dennison is third at one-over 145. Wisconsin's Malinda Johnson is fourth at two-over 146, and Indiana's Molly Redfearn stands fifth at five-over 149.

The field of 19 teams includes four Big 12 schools and five Big 10 schools.

Baylor's top individual is senior Kelli McKandless, who is tied for sixth at 150 after carding a four-over 76 Saturday. Sophomore Meredith Jones shot a team-best one-over-par 73 in the second round and is tied for 13th at 151. Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was freshman Anna Rehnholm (154, t21st), senior Michaelyn Morgan (154, t21st) and sophomore Josefin Svenningsson (156, t27 th).



The Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout concludes Sunday with a final round of 18 holes beginning at 7:14 a.m. CST at Tapatio Springs Golf Resort, a 6,007-yard, par 72 course.
