Final BancorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate Results
OXFORD, Miss. - Senior Jaclyn Jansen captured her third career tournament title and led the 17th-ranked Baylor women's golf team to its third win of the season Sunday at the BancorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate.
Thanks to a final-round 71, Jansen notched her second tournament win of the season, finishing the weekend with a career-low 6-under 210. In October, the Effingham, Ill., native won the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate. In April 2010, she posted her career-first tournament win, posting a two-stroke victory at the Baylor Spring Invitational.
Jansen was one of only three golfers to finish the weekend under-par. She bested Tulsa's Marita Engzelius by one stroke and Ole Miss' Natalie Gleadall by four strokes. After a double-bogey to open the final round, Jansen shot 3-under over the final 17 holes to secure the win.
"Like I said all week, Jaclyn wants to finish her senior year strong," first-year head coach Jay Goble said. "She's definitely shown that so far in the spring through her work ethic. Her hard work has definitely paid off. She was pretty awesome on the course all week."
Despite shooting a final-round 6-over 294, Baylor ran away with the Rebel Intercollegiate crown by eight strokes, widening the gap with second-place Tulsa. The 37th-ranked Golden Hurricane finished second at 15-over 879, while host and 39th-ranked Ole Miss finished third at 17-over 881.
Baylor posted its third tournament victory of the season and first since the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate in October. The Lady Bears have won three or more tournaments in the same season for the first time since 2004-05 when it also won three.
Freshman Stani Schiavone established a personal 54-hole low with an even-par 216, finishing fourth overall - her highest finish in seven career events. Freshman Hayley Davis tied for 11th at 7-over 223, notching her eighth top-15 finish of the season.
"Stani (Schiavone) was super solid this week," Goble said. "It was by far her best tournament as collegiate and the first tournament she put together with three solid rounds. Had she had a few more putts fall, she could have challenged Jaclyn for the title."
Senior Chelsey Cothran, ranked 36th nationally by Golfstat, and individual Kaylin Terry finished in a tie for 27th at 10-over 226. Senior Valerie Sternebeck tied for 33rd at 12-over 228.
"Everything we do is working towards the postseason," Goble said. "We have one more spring event left at Ohio State and that will give us a chance to work on our weaknesses. To get a win this late in the year before the postseason is a momentum-booster."
Baylor closes out its spring schedule April 21-22 at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
