WACO, Texas - Baylor women's golf won two of three in a head-to-head match play event against UTSA on Saturday afternoon at Ridgewood Country Club.
The teams played three two-on-two match play scrambles. Baylor's Hayley Davis and Laura Lonardi won by two holes against UTSA's Taylor Newlin and Fabiola Arriaga, and BU's Maggie Beth Byers and Hadas Libman combined to defeat UTSA's Chelsea Bretcher and Aimee Ponte by one hole. UTSA's victory came when Brogan Townend and Libby Thomas beat Natalia Perez and Louise Gateau-Chovelon by four holes.
"It was a really windy day, but the scramble format made it fun and competitive for both teams," head coach Jay Goble said. "It will be fun to play singles match play tomorrow, because the national championship is going to that format in 2015. We never get to play match play and it can be really exciting."
Baylor and UTSA will play again on Sunday, with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT. Sunday's round will be singles head-to-head match play. The pairings are: Davis vs. Arriaga, Lonardi vs. Newlin, Perez vs. Thomas, Gateau-Chovelon vs. Townend, Byers vs. Ponte and Libman vs. Bretcher.
