MANHATTAN, Kan. - The women's golf team shot an 18-over par 306 Friday in the first round of the Big 12 Championships at Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan. The 306 ties Baylor with Oklahoma for the second place spot behind Oklahoma State.
The Bears, ranked 33rd nationally by Golfstat, are led by senior Nicole Johnson who posted a first round 75 to hold the fourth place spot.
The individual scoring for the Bears is strong with junior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson shooting 76 (9th place) and senior Tara Bateman posting 77 (17th place). Sophomore Michaelyn Morgan carded a 79 (27th place) and junior Melanie Hagewood shot 80 (31st place).
Baylor is only 13 strokes behind OSU who finished five shots over par at 293. Oklahoma is tied with Baylor at 306 followed by Texas (312) and Kansas State (313).
The next round of the Big 12 Championships will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. and finish up Sunday.
