ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Baylor junior Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) shot a bogey-free, 2-under par 71 and is tied for fourth overall, while the Bears are tied for eighth after the first round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Monday at the University of New Mexico's 6,069-yard, par-73 Championship Course.

Jones birdied the par-3 seventh hole, then rolled in 10-straight pars before birdying the par-5 18th and picked up right where she left off last year, also firing a career-low 71 in the final round of the 2004 NCAA Championships. The 2-under par showing; however, is a new career-low.

Freshman Sian Reddick (Folkestone, England) got her Baylor career off to a solid start by tying for 28th with a 75. Reddick had her ups and downs throughout the round, finishing with six bogeys and four birdies. She birdied three of the course's five par-5s (holes five, nine and 10) to finish 3-under on the par-5s.

Junior Josefin Svenningsson (Gislaved, Sweden) is tied for 45th after shooting a 76. Svenningsson, who finished tied for 20th at last year's NCAA Championship, got off to a good start by shooting even-par on the front nine, before bogeying three holes on the back nine.

Sophomore Anna Rehnholm (Karlskrona, Sweden) shot a 77 and is tied for 51st. Rehnholm birdied the first hole and was steady until a double bogey on 15. Sophomore Sherry Summers (Montgomery, Texas) made her first career start and was solid with a 78. Summers birdied the ninth and carried the momentum over to the back nine, where she was only 2-over par.

Georgia (287) leads the tournament by five strokes over New Mexico (292) and six strokes over Pepperdine (293) and Oklahoma State (293). Georgia's Kelly Froelich (68) leads the individual race by a stroke over BYU's Natalie Newren (69) and three strokes over teammate Allison Martin (71). Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll and Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin are tied for fourth with Jones.

The tournament continues Tuesday with second-round tee times from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The tournament concludes with the third round on Wednesday.
