Women's Golfers Seventh At McGuire Invitational
Sept. 21, 2000 Baylor's women's golf team shot a 307 Thursday and is currently in seventh place at the Comcast-Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque. At 14-over-par, the Bears trail tournament leader Arizona by 15 strokes. Arizona is followed in the 18-team standings by Pepperdine (295), Tulsa (301), Oklahoma (304) and Oregon State (305). True freshman Michaelyn Morgan led the Bears by shooting a one-over-par 74 Thursday and is tied for eighth place individually. Junior Tara Bateman is tied for 20th with a three-over 76. Rounding out the scoring for Baylor was sophomore Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson, who stands 39th after shooting a first-round 78. Junior Nicole Johnson carded a 79 Thursday and is tied at No. 53. Sophomore Melanie Hagewood shot an 80 in round one, leaving her in 59th. The McGuire Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico, is held at the 6,069-yard, par-73 UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque.
Baylor, unranked in the preseason edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, won the team title at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., last weekend.
