Women's Golf Takes Title in New Mexico

Las Cruces, N.M. - Baylor's women's golf team took the title at the New Mexico State Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate today (304-297-293=894). This is the second tournament this year that the Bears have taken a title. The Bears took first place in their season-opener at the Ptarmigan/ Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.

The Bears, ranked 9th nationally by Golfstat, were led by senior Melanie Hagewood with a third-day score 70, placing her in third place individually (73-74-70=217). This is Hagewood's second top-five finish this season.

Coming in second for the Bears was junior Michaelyn Morgan who tied at seventh (75-75-73=223). Junior Kelli McKandless tied at 11th after scoring a 76 today (77-72-76=225), while senior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson tied at 24th (79-76-74=229). Freshman Josefin Svenningson shot an 82 putting her tied for 88th (86-80-82=248).

Freshman Erin Bradford entered as an individual and tied for 80th after carding a third-round 85 (80-80-85=245).

Rounding out the top five finishers were New Mexico State (305-291-300= 896),New Mexico (299-304-301=904), San Jose State (308-302-299=909) and Texas-El Paso (309-304-300 =913).

The Bears are set to play in The Adidas Fall Invitational in Port St. Lucie, Fla. On Oct. 21-22.
