Women's Golf Takes 2nd at Give `Em Five Invite

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Baylor women's golf team posted a third round 298 to earn second place at the Price's "Give `Em Five" Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M Wednesday afternoon. It is Baylor's second straight runner-up finish and the third time this season it has finished a tournament as the top Big 12 school. "We couldn't have finished any better today. We hit the ball really well and everyone contributed," said head coach Sylvia Ferdon. "We really showed this week that we have the depth to compete with anyone in the nation. "Finishing as the top Big 12 team really makes it even better. If we continue to improve and work on the little things, I think we'll be right in the hunt when the Big 12 Championships roll around." Heading into the third and final round three shots back of second place Oklahoma, the Bears used a balanced scoring average to surpass the Sooners and take home runner-up honors. Morgan Chambers led Baylor on day three with a 1-over 73 to tie for 12th place overall with a 52-hole total of 226. With a third round 79, Hannah Burke finished tied for eighth with a three-day total of 225 (72-74-79). Natalie Hocott and Jaclyn Jansen tied for 22nd place after posting third round scores of 75 and 74 respectively. Lene Hafsten-Morch rounded out play for Baylor with a third round 4-over 76 to finish the tournament with a score of 231 (73-82-76). UC Irvine took home the team title, while Jane Chine of UC Irvine won individual honors with a three-day 212 (70-74-68). Baylor will next hit the links Nov. 2-3 in Austin when it competes at the Challenge at Wolfdancer.
