Women's Golf Finishes Tied for 13th at Onion Creek

Final Challenge at Onion Creek Results in PDF Format AUSTIN, Texas – The Baylor women’s golf team shot a final-round 295 to finish tied for 13th Tuesday in its fall finale at the Challenge at Onion Creek. Texas A&M shot 1-under 839 over three rounds to win the tournament. San Francisco finished second at 2-over, followed by host Texas State in third at 23-over, Texas in fourth at 24-over and Indiana in fifth at 26-over. Texas A&M’s Julia Boland fired a 4-under 206 to claim individual medalist honors. “We didn’t step up this week,” Baylor head women’s golf coach Sylvia Ferdon said. “We need to develop a mentality that you have to go low when the conditions are good like they were this week.” Senior Hannah Burke posted her fourth top-15 finish this season after a final-round 1-under 69 to finish tied for 15th. Burke was the lone Lady Bear golfer to record a sub-par round in three rounds at Onion Creek. Jaclyn Jansen shot 9-over (71-73-75=219) to finish 42nd, while Chelsey Cothran and Lene Hafsten-Morch each shot 11-over 221 to finish 53rd. Morgan Chambers finished tied for 92nd overall at 20-over (78-76-76=230). “We need to learn from our mistakes and regroup for the spring,” Ferdon said. “The hardest part of all is that we dug ourselves into a hole today.” The Baylor women's golf team will open its spring schedule Feb. 7-9, 2010, at the Purdue-hosted Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R.
