Baylor's women's golf team took third place at their final tournament in the Pine Needles Invitational on Tuesday after playing in the two-day tournament co-hosted by N.C. State and Rollins. The Bears shot a final-round 312 today (300-307-312=919). This is the fourth out of five tournaments this fall that the Bears have finished in the top five, including three first-place finishes. The Bears took first place in their season-opener at the Ptarmigan/ Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., at New Mexico State's Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate and in Notre Dame's Adidas Fall Invitational.
The Bears were led by senior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson. With a third-round score 76, she finished in ninth place (75-77-76=228). This is second time this fall that Svenningsson's has been the top finisher for the Bears. She also paced the Baylor squad at the Adidas Fall Invitational.
Coming in second for the Bears was senior Melanie Hagewood, who tied for 11th after carding a third-round 75 (79-76-75=230). After shooting a three-round 231, junior Michaelyn Morgan tied for 13th place (74-76-81=231). Junior Kelli McKandless tied for 16th place after scoring an 80 today (75-78-80=233), while freshman Josefin Svenningsson shot an 81 putting her tied for 33rd after the final round of play (76-80-81=237).
Freshman Erin Bradford, who entered the tournament as an individual, shot a 74 today and tied for 16th overall (77-82-74=233).
North Carolina took the title (304-292-303=899) followed by co-host N.C. State (303-290-314=907). Rounding out the top five finishers are Baylor (300-307-312=919), Rollins (314-299-313=926) and Miami (316-294-319=929).
This was the final tournament the Bears will compete in this fall. They will resume play on Feb 24-25 when they travel to Parrish, Fla. to play in the Central District Classic.
