Women's Golfers Travel to Big 12 Championships

WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's golf team will travel to Manhattan, Kan., April 19-21 to participate in the 2002 Big 12 Championships at Colbert Hills Golf Club. The tournament is hosted by Kansas State and includes all the Big 12 schools.

Baylor is ranked 33rd in the latest GOLFSTAT national rankings, and will travel a squad consisting of seniors Tara Bateman and Nicole Johnson, juniors Melanie Hagewood and Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson and sophomore Michaelyn Morgan.

Baylor is coming off consecutive second place finishes in its last two competitions, the Tapatio Springs Shootout and the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.

The Colbert Hills Golf Club is a 6,008-yard, par 72 course. The tournament consists of 18-hole rounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a practice round on Thursday, April 18.

The Bears finished third at last year's Big 12 Championships in Rhodes, Iowa. Baylor was led at the 2001 championships by then-sophomore Hagewood, who shot rounds of 83-77-75 (235) to finish tied for 11th.
